PURPOSE

Reporting to the Protective & Accessories Business Unit manager, the main responsibilities of the Product Developer will be to collaborate with several multidisciplinary teams (industrialization, design, marketing, mechanical laboratory, performance laboratory, field tests, sourcing, QC & CAD) in order to manage innovation or product development projects from conceptualization to industrialization, while ensuring compliance with deadlines, budgets and product performance requirements.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Product development

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to develop new protective products that meet market’s needs.
  • Evaluate the cost of features, materials and components during the development phases and look for solutions to reduce costs or increase efficiency.
  • Collaborate with partners in Asia and NA to facilitate the manufacturing process: exchange on specifications, manufacturing process development and manufacturing methods.
  • Work with suppliers to develop new processes to meet CCM expectation.
  • Manage project timelines & budgets.
  • Act as a Product expert within the BU.

Process

  • Coordinate communication and documentation between different team members (designer, product manager).
  • Continuously improve project management process (timeline management, task and deliverable tracking, etc.).

Innovation

  • Feed new product concepts, technologies and materials through an innovation pipeline.
  • Stay up to date on new technologies and materials and incorporate them into future designs.
  • Guide and support fundamental research projects with research partners to align with product development needs.
  • Develop product concepts that create measurable beneficial innovation for the end user.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hard goods development and/or project management
  • University degree in mechanical or material engineering or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of foams, fabrics and plastics
  • Ability to prepare and interpret hand drawings as well as 2D and 3D technical drawings
  • Familiar with the following software and operation system: MS Office, Smartsheet, any project management software. (Illustrator is not essential but an asset)
  • Ability to work independently, to resolve problems and take initiative, adaptability and flexibility
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and French as well as ability to transport information effectively
  • Ability to think and act in a goal-oriented manner, prioritizes, and completes tasks in order of importance.
  • Ability to use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.
  • Act as a positive agent of proactive behavior with excellent detail oriented approach
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks with different levels of complexity.
  • Strong negotiation skills with both internal and external groups
  • Ability to travel is required
