Who are we looking for?

The Lead IP Engineer is for highly experienced Network Engineers who are strong authorities in their field and can provide Technical Leadership of IP Engineering Design/Build/Run Teams, responsible for ensuring the successful delivery and support of complex, end-to-end project lifecycles.  This role will oversee network designs and solutions underpinning product and roadmap programs spanning both tactical and strategic initiatives, with a focus on Data Center, Hybrid Cloud, Fabric/NaaS, and Provider/Supplier network architectures.

 

What will you be doing day-to-day? 

The "Design/Build/Run" work methodology incorporates planning, design, testing, automation, deployment, monitoring and maintenance as a complete and highly collaborative function.  

  • Leads are accountable and responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise across the complete project and service lifecycle of engineering and operational network, security and network management programs.
  • Supporting the network strategy and spearheading dynamically formed Design/Build/Run teams, Leads will deliver against the technical goals of a project, including resourcing, requirements analysis, proof of concept work, testing (automation), high level/low level design, scheduling, and deployment of solutions via Automation and Orchestration (CI/CD pipeline) or Manual change.
  • Responsible for technology selection, security and maintainability and ensuring the designs meet non-functional requirements, including scale, performance and delivery using automation/orchestration where and when available.

 

  • Leads are required to facilitate and support continual engineering/operational requirements and lead Design/Build/run teams through incident management and fault diagnostics, prioritizing a restore first approach to remediation.
  • Alongside project activity, Leads will act as the primary technical and communication interface between Managers, Architects, and project stakeholders across the business, keeping everyone informed of high-level changes, risks, and progress.

 

  • Create, implement and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans, reviewing and updating regularly to ensure they stay effective.

 

  • Leads are responsible for providing motivation and mentorship to the engineers across Design/Build/Run teams, whilst ensuring resources are aligned, optimized and effective.

 

  • Leads are required to provide a senior technical presence on MSO bridge calls.

 

What you’ll need 

  • A strong specialist Data Centre design background and more general experience of IP, Security and Optical Technologies across Service Provider, Core, Access, Cloud and Management Architectures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience delivering mid-to-large size projects as a lead or as a resource within those projects
  • Deep understanding of IP, TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, EVPN/VXLAN, advanced MPLS, and OTN Technologies and protocols. 
  • Experience and proficiency with network, alert and inventory/asset management tools like Netbox, NetPicker, SolarWinds, Wireshark, Grafana, Big Panda or similar.
  • Automation experience across frameworks, libraries and orchestration tools using Python, Terraform, Ansible, PyTest, Jenkins, GitLab etc;
  • Certifications such as Cisco's CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, Juniper's JNCIA/JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent.
